This book main characters are Ishmael, a sailor of the whaling ship Pequod, commanded by the Captain Ahab. Captain Ahab wanted to seek one specific whale, Moby Dick. Moby Dick had a reputation for its enormous proportions and for its ability to get rid of the whale-chasers. Captain Ahab is one of the ones that have been attacked by the whale, as a result he got a wooden leg to replace the one that the whale took off. His main goal was to revenge from the whale that made he lose his leg. The Captain showed a mean attitude, denying help for the others and being uniquely focused on his revenge. When he finally found the whale, a tragedy happened. The only survivor was Ishmael, that was rescued by a ship that was searching for some members of its crew.

  1. A classic tale!
There is another excellent book written from the viewpoint of his Captain Ahab's wife. It's called "Ahab's Wife", in case you are interested.
    1. What do you think Ahab's wife would think of Ahab's obsession?
    2. What do you think Moby Dick is a symbol of?

  2. 1. I think that Ahab's wife won't support him that much on the pursuit for revenge. Because the sea environment at the time wasn't a common place for woman particularly and because she might has some other priorities rather than revenge, such as raising their children while he was on the ocean.

    2. For the crew, I think Moby Dick represents the unknown, the adventure.
For Ahab, I think it represents the most evil creature in the world, and that is the supporting reason for his pursuit.
